Davidson College’s Media Lab

The first major project I was tasked with upon arriving at Davidson College in 2007 was the creation of a media lab. The configuration of the lab was a workbench style table lining the perimeter of a windowless basement room in the main education building on campus. There were four Macintosh pro tower computers, with a cart that had a digital tape deck on it. Podcast Studio

In the last five years, Davidson College's Information and Technology department has been adding additional spaces for students to explore and experiment with technology. Studio D came online in 2012 as an experimental classroom. This is a modular space for faculty who are wanting to try innovative teaching. Studio M, which came online in 2013, is our Makerspace. It has provided a community-oriented workspace designed to encourage collaboration between people with common interests. The newest space which I created and manage is our Media & Podcasting Studio.
